Transformative touches for this creative office environment

Production and creative agency Foxtrot Papa approached Trifle* in late 2015 to ask us to help them improve their existing office in Borough, London SE1. Trifle* created a space planning solution complete with bespoke furniture pieces to work precisely with their requirements. Four distinct breakout areas were created, including a meeting booth in the kitchen/cafe, large bespoke tables for agile working in a creative hub and a lounge style meeting space. Feature lighting was used to help zone these areas.

The reception area included a bespoke, freestanding wooden phone booth as well as new lighting and furniture items to enable the team to use it as another working area. Bookcases and storage units were also produced to help create a coherent scheme throughout the space.

Injecting personality, colour and home-like touches

A key part of the brief was to add personality and colour. The space had beautiful wooden floors and although situated on the lower ground level had good natural light. We created a palette of mid century colours to tie in with the existing features of the building, incorporating mixed green and blue tones with olive green and grey accents. Soft furnishings of rugs and cushions added some home-like touches. Vintage furniture was incorporated for warmth and character and mixed with stylish contemporary and bespoke pieces.

The overall space plan only required minor changes to incorporate a diner-style eating and meeting booth in the kitchen/cafe area and dividers to separate desks from collaborative areas. The bespoke timber phone booth in the welcome area featured ‘London Toile’ wallpaper from Timorous Beasties to inject fun to the scheme and became a stand out feature in the space.

Making spaces for creativity

The team at Foxtrot Papa work in a highly creative and collaborative way so required spaces to facilitate this mode. A paper roll, clipboards and stationery wall unit were added to the creative zone which reduced the requirement of booking meeting room space. This area included feature pendant lighting symbolic of ‘bright ideas’.

The end result proved how a few key changes can have big impact on a space. Looking for the neglected areas within the space allowed the Trifle* team to create entirely new spaces that encouraged the informal meetings and collaboration which were so important to the Foxtrot Papa team.
